13 Jun Transport for London (TfL) launches Cycle Skills sessions
TfL are offering a series of free Cycle Skills sessions to anyone who lives, works or studies in London
Cycling as a mode of transport is growing, increasing the rate of vulnerable road users sharing our busy urban environments.
Cycle Skills is developed to increase confidence on London’s roads, provide cyclists with tips and skills in being safe on the road, and encourage more cycling, more often.
Cycle Skills offers a range of training sessions created to help Londoners get on their bike, build confidence and ride smarter on the roads.
Ben Plowden, TfL’s Director of Surface Strategy and Planning said “We are committed to supporting Londoners with Cycle Skills sessions to encourage more people to cycle safely and more confidently. With all London boroughs offering free Cycle Skills sessions and London’s roads providing direct, segregated routes and Quiteways there’s never been a better time to explore London by bike”.
There are four sessions available, outlined below:
Basic cycle skills
Practice in a safe and off-road environment, and learn the basics and build skills.
Urban cycle skills
Improve your cycling in a safe and off-road environment to refresh your cycling techniques before moving on to quiet roads. The instructor will support you throughout to help you cycle more confidently.
Family cycle skills
Gain confidence and learn together with your family. During the session an instructor will take you and your family on quiet routes and through parks. These sessions offer the opportunity to build on, or prepare for, Bikeability skills taught in schools.
Advanced cycle skills
During the Advanced cycle skills session, you can perfect your cycling technique, learning to improve your performance, deal with heavy traffic and junctions and cycling at night.
