100 fully accredited Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) Staying Legal courses are now available to FORS operators free of charge.

Fleet Source, principal training provider for Transport for London (including the Safe Urban Driving program) has developed a new seven-hour DCPC course on behalf of TfL, Staying Legal as part of the CLOCS (Construction Logistics and Cycle Safety) initiative for HGV drivers.

The development of the Staying Legal course is in direct response to high level of non- compliant HGV’s found during road side stops and the suggestion form the various enforcement agencies that a specially designed course is required to re-educate offenders.

The learning aims are to raise the overall HGV compliance standards, along with the protection of the actual Operators Licence. Staying Legal is fully DCPC accredited and amounts to a seven hour DCPC training module, towards a driver’s graduated total.

The course syllabus includes;
• Operator licensing requirements
• Regulatory framework that governs the road transport industry
• Enforcement agencies that police non-compliant operations
• Enforcing regulations – the targeting methods used and the common offences
• Driver offences and the consequences of non-compliance
• A compliant driver
• A compliant vehicle
• A compliant journey
• Industry led initiatives to reduce Work Related Road Risk (WRRR)

The courses are available between January 7th until 31st March 2016 to all FORS accredited operators free of charge and those attending will only need to pay the DVSA upload fee of £8.75.
