03 Apr Fleet Source host Safe Urban Driving course for Travis Perkins and Media
Fleet Source collaborate with Travis Perkins to present Safe Urban Driving course at Barking Training Centre to raise awareness of road safety.
Fleet Source, the leading training provider and principal training provider for the TfL Safe Urban Driving programme, raised awareness of the course at their newly launched Barking Training Centre on Wednesday 29th March 2017.
The event was held by Travis Perkins, who have committed to training 4,000 drivers on the Safe Urban Driving course with Fleet Source. The specialist training course aims to give drivers a difference perspective of travelling on the road as a vulnerable road user, which includes pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
The day was attended by Transport for London, Brake the road safety charity, some of the Travis Perkins team and drivers along with numerous industry press. Parts of the Safe Urban Driving course was also filmed live for London Live TV to raise awareness of road safety and the issues facing drivers in the capital today.
“The course includes a practical ‘on-road’ cycle element which gives drivers a ‘real life’ experience as to a cyclist’s perspective of riding on London’s roads, as well as in traffic”, said Graham Bellman, Group Fleet Director at Travis Perkins. “Having this insight into the behaviours of other road users is invaluable in making our communities and streets safer, not only in London but all across the UK”.
Fleet Source ran the Safe Urban Driving training programme for Travis Perkins. Steve Hamon, Sales & Marketing Director at Fleet Source said:
“Travis Perkins wanted to ensure that they got drivers considering how they currently drive and the impact that has on vulnerable road users. Taking drivers out into the urban environment on a push bike really enables them to see road safety from a different perspective to what they usually experience behind the wheel in their HGV’s”.
